Orlando Choral Society outreach
Started in 2015 by the Orlando Choral Society’s (OCS) Artistic and Executive Director Dr. Jeffery Redding to further our mission of “building community through song”, OCS Unity Concerts serve as annual fundraisers for Central Florida charitable organizations. Since 2015, OCS Unity Concerts have raised a total of $9,500 for deserving non-profits such as Matthew’s Hope, Wounded Officers Initiative, Russell Home For Atypical Children, and Young Fathers of Central Florida.
The Orlando Choral Society’s newest ensemble is the Outreach Choir. This group, consisting of volunteer members from both Garden Choir and Voci del Cuore, performs seasonally at various assisted living facilities in the West Orange area and will soon expand to perform in prisons and local hospitals.
Made possible by a generous grant from the Universal Orlando Foundation, the Orlando Choral Society’s newest outreach program is our Choir Camp. This event invites high school choral students from Orange County Public Schools to learn from and perform under the direction of our GRAMMY award-winning Executive Director Dr. Jeffery Redding and our illustrious Assistant Director, Christine Le. The inaugural camp will take place in the summer of 2019 and rehearsals will culminate in a concert that will be open to the public.
Annual Canned Food Drive
When the call for more non-perishable food items came from local food pantries in January 2018, the Orlando Choral Society answered. Since then, OCS members have donated 2,500 non-perishable food items and toiletries to Matthew’s Hope Ministries Garden of Eatin’ Food Pantry. This annual program is still new to OCS but we look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with local food pantries to make a positive impact on our community’s under-served citizens.
