Membership & Joining

Q: Do I need to audition?
A: Nope! We’re a non-auditioned choir. All experience levels are welcome—whether you’ve sung in choirs for years or just in the shower.

Q: How do I join?
A: You can join at any time during the season. Just come to a Monday night rehearsal, or complete our online membership form before your first visit.

Q: Is my first rehearsal free?
A: Yes! We encourage you to try a rehearsal before committing.

Q: Is there a minimum age to join?
A: Singers must be at least 18 years old.

Rehearsals & Performances

Q: When and where are rehearsals?
A: Mondays, 6:30–8:30 PM at West Orange High School (Band Room). We follow the school calendar and take breaks for major holidays.

Q: Do I have to attend every rehearsal?
A: We understand life happens, but regular attendance ensures you’re prepared for performances.

Q: Do I have to perform in every concert?
A: No. While we encourage participation, you can choose the performances that work for your schedule.

Q: Where do you perform?
A: Our season includes local concerts and exciting travel opportunities—past seasons have included Carnegie Hall, Steinmetz Hall, and events in Selma, Alabama.

Costs & Materials

Q: Are there membership dues?
A: Yes, dues help cover music, rehearsal space, and operating costs. Scholarships and sponsorships are available.

Q: What’s included in my membership?
A: Sheet music, rehearsal resources, performance opportunities, and the chance to sing with an award-winning conductor and community.

Q: Do I need to buy my own music?
A: No. We provide your music at the start of each concert cycle.

Q: What should I wear for performances?
A: We’ll provide attire guidelines before each concert—this may vary depending on the event.

Travel & Special Events

Q: Do I have to travel to out-of-town performances?
A: No. All travel is optional, but highly encouraged—it’s a great way to connect with fellow singers and create lasting memories.

Q: Are travel costs covered by OCS?
A: Members cover their own travel expenses. We sometimes arrange group rates for hotels and transportation.
